Israel Aerospace Industries' (IAI) Heron Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) has recorded 20,000 flying hours in the Middle East. The Heron, which has been in use by the Australian Air Force in Afghanistan since 2010, has a reputation as one of the most reliable and effective platforms of its type operating in the Middle East, according to Wing Commander (WGCDR) John McMullan, the Commanding Officer of the Heron Detachment.
"We have achieved 20,000 hours in less than four years, which is an immense amount of intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance support to soldiers on the ground," WGCDR McMullan said.
